A Review of Dark Life, by Kat Falls

As many of you know, we read just about every genre here at Pour-Over Parchment. Last week, I decided to try something a little bit different and a little bit fun. Thus, I have decided to review Dark Life, by Kat Falls.

This Scholastic book is written for an age range of 8-12 years, grade levels 3-7. Parents, if you have a kid who likes science, this would be a great book for them! Ty, the main character, is a clear leader in his community. He is a fun and witty character, who still has a great sense of adventure at his age, though he also understands the responsibility of life.

One thing Kat Falls does well in this book is that she creates an added dimension to her young characters, by giving each of them a special ability. The twists are unpredictable, and the plot is well paced.

This is part of a series, though I did not see enough of a hook to keep me reading into book 2. It works well as a stand alone book. If you are thinking about summer reading for your kids, I highly recommend this one! Also, as an adult, I recommend this to you as well. It has a great sense of imagination that can only be found in books for those who know no bounds.
